AWP Conference Community Scholarship

Applications to the AWP Conference Community Scholarship are now open!

Launched in 2021, the AWP Conference Community Scholarship is the cornerstone of AWP’s mission to increase access to our annual conference and bookfair. Each recipient receives a full conference registration. While anyone may apply, AWP especially encourages applications from those who identify as people of color, disabled, LGBTQIA+, and/or low-income. AWP membership is not required.

Seventy-five percent of community scholarships are awarded to residents of the conference’s host region.

Since its founding, the scholarship has enabled hundreds of writers to attend the conference at no, or significantly reduced, cost. Thank you to the generous donors who help us open our community to these wonderful writers!

Apply to the AWP Conference Community Scholarship below. Applications close on Wednesday, November 25, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET. All applicants will be notified of a decision by December 31, 2026.

A scholarship award includes full admission to AWP’s bookfair, meetings, panels, readings, and public receptions for the duration of the conference period. NOTE TO APPLICANTS: Please wait until you are notified of a decision before purchasing a registration. All sales are final and nonrefundable. Individuals who purchase a registration cannot be reimbursed and are ineligible for a scholarship. Applicants who do not receive a scholarship can request extended access to early-bird pricing.
