MK Asante, bestselling author, award-winning filmmaker, recording artist, and distinguished professor, takes us on a personal journey into polyrhythmic storytelling.

He is the author of five books, including Buck: A Memoir, which was praised by Maya Angelou, and Nephew: A Memoir in 4-Part Harmony, winner of the 2025 In the Margins Book Award. He founded the Emmy-nominated Wonderful Sound Studios and is featured in A Changing America at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Asante studied at SOAS University of London, received a BA and honorary doctor of arts from Lafayette College, and earned his MFA from UCLA. He is a tenured professor of cinematic arts and sciences at Morgan State University, where he received the Distinguished Achievement Award.
